How the necromancer had found her when his own retainers hadn’t was concerning.

But humans would do amazing things to avoid death.

He wasn’t certain why.

Still, for this child, he would help Korvar see a millennium of sunrises.

A child.

One with such promise.

Such potential.

He hadn’t seen one of her caliber in a dozen centuries.

Could she be the one to break his father’s curse?

He listened to the latest reports from his spy master, but he still didn’t care how many had died or how many more would.

Then Asche entered the great hall and bowed low enough to touch her head to the floor.

He stood to hear her report.

The war waged on as the separate factions vied for power.

Some houses rose, some fell.

He remained indifferent.

And the streets of Oskelez were painted in blood.

He stared in disgust at the chaos, the turmoil, the dead and dying in the streets.

He did nothing to end it and nothing to extend it.

It was simply the state of these crass, worthless beings.

Beings his father had betrayed him for.

It wasn’t entertaining. It hadn’t been in centuries.

But it was annoying.

More ants stepping beyond the simple boundaries he’d established.

He took no sides, simply ending those that strayed beyond his bounds.

And the war dragged on.
