I have had more than a few requests to include a map of Tamryn in my books so readers have a better idea of what the world looks like. This is the main kingdom where many books in the Knights of Valor series are set.
Except, my art skills are…well, I am at the stick figure level.
So, I got myself a late Christmas present, and I paid an artist to create a map. Here is is!

I still need to figure out how to get it into the actual books, both print and e-books. That is much easier to type than it will be to actually do.
But I was too excited not to share this.
I hope it helps to put the world into perspective.
I am not sure how I will add new places. Or how to create a city map of Aerius itself. Or how to create maps of other places like Qumaref and lands still in the rough draft phase of writing, but right now, I am really happy to have a map of Tamryn.
That’s such an adorable map! I see the manors and I just want to hug them. You should make a big framed version for the wall above your writing desk.
Great idea!
Looks really nice. Very well done!
Lovely map. 🙂 May I suggest that you make the map the ‘back cover’ of your paperback? The reason is that any COLOUR graphic that appears inside the interior of the book will change it’s print profile to colour, and colour is much more expensive. This is true, even if you only have 1, single colour graphic in the interior. The only other alternative would be to have the map changed to a black and white version. That would stop the interior from being charged at colour rates.
Re the ebook version, you’ll have a slightly different, colour related problem: ordinary Kindles and Paperwhites only display as black and white, so the colour of your map would be lost. Not sure how well the colour would be downgraded either. Tablets, including the Kindle Fire series, display in colour, but they’re still not as popular as the ordinary ereaders.
It’s definitely a connundrum. Best of luck. 🙂
I followed your advice and have been doing some research on how sites handle pictures…Yeah, maybe not such a great idea to include in the book.
Thinking of maybe setting up a separate page on my website where I can include it and then a link to it in the books if people really want to see it.
That’s a good idea. Plus you /can/ use the map in all sorts of promotional stuff too, even as a pic on Twitter.
That’s gorgeous, and inspiring, as is the advice in the comments, and your response. Thanks for sharing it. Cheers
